The White doves that are used at weddings for release are really homing pigeons.
That is because a dove is much to small of a bird to handle a release and lacks the homing ability to return to its home.
The homing pigeons that are used for wedding releases are truly amazing birds they can home from as far as 500 miles but most white dove releases will only travel a thirty to fifty mile radius of the loft. This is why you can find so many people in the wedding, and funeral dove release business. The pigeons are fairly easy to take care of and with a little road work your in the white dove release business. You will need to take care of your birds cleaning and feeding them and providing fresh water everyday. Other then that they are not much work at all. They are not expensive to feed and are fun to own.
You will need to learn about them but there are so many books on the market this is not a problem.
I myself stated with pigeons as a young boy. I was lucky to have some white homing pigeons and it was them few white birds that started my white homing bird releases. I did not get rich but I sure had some pocket cash when times were hard.
